Dumping Yard Workers Plagued by Poverty
Emran Hossain
The most extensive dumping yard in the city, located near the shores of the Bay of Bengal at Anandabazar in Chittagong, is about thirty to forty feet high and looks like a mount of dirt.
About ninety million people live in this city, all the garbage of the municipality ends here, and about two hundred to three hundred families work in this dumping yard, including children. Working day and night, they collect plastics, iron, copper, aluminum, etc., and sell them to make a living.
